Cat’s Day in Japan

I read here that Feb. 22 in Japan is Cat’s Day, because if you read out the numbers in Japanese they sound like miao miao miao (or, nyan nyan nyan), which is what Japanese cats say. I really like the movie, The Cat Returns, by Miyazaki. My mum picked up the news (which includes a YouTube video) via japanprobe.com, who says:

…an art gallery in Fukuoka is celebrating Cat Day by putting on an art show of cat sculptures. Thirty-two artists from across Japan submitted a variety of pieces to the art show, including golden cat sculpture worth 3.15 million yen [about US $26,000]. Visitors can also have their own custom cat-tastic name stamps made while they wait! The show will run until February 27th, so hurry on over and check it out now!

This post also points you to a poll at What Japan Thinks in which people voted on which cat actions are the cutest - the results are already in.
